Engineered Stone/Quartz
Engineered Stone, or quartz countertops as they are commonly known within the Kitchen and Bath Industry, consist of 93-95% quartz and 5-7% polymer resins. Consumers get many benefits from using engineered quartz over natural stones like granite and marble.
Benefits
- Product warranty
- Maintenance free countertop
- Scratch resistance
- Optional thickness & finishes
Granite & Natural Stone
Granite countertops are composed of natural minerals and deposits, and are subject to variations in background color, hue, and vein distribution or pattern formations. Fissures, dry seams, and pitting are natural-occurring features within granite slabs and are not considered defects.
These unique natural characteristics will not change over time and in no way affect the performance of the stone. In fact, these natural fissures and varying deposits are considered “beauty marks” within the stone and make each piece unique.
Solid Surface Countertops
Solid Surface is a non-porous, low maintenance material used in fabricating countertops, shower bases, bathtubs, and shower wall panels. It can mimic the appearance of granite, marble, and other naturally occurring materials.
Solid Surface’s main appeal is that it can be fabricated to look like an invisibly seamed countertop if
choosing a solid or non-directional color. Solid surface or acrylic based tops are also resilient in that they can be repaired if you burn the surface or if the counter surface becomes cracked, chipped, and scratched. Sheet goods can also be heated and bent into three-dimensional shapes using a process called “thermoforming”, which adds to the versatility of the product.
A major appeal of solid surface is its impermeability. Solid surface sinks can be joined to the countertop surface without showing a seam or having gaps at the joint. In other words they can be “integrated” into the solid surface material.
Dekton & Porcelain Products
Dekton is relatively new to the market and offers many unique advantages. Dekton is non-porous and stain-resistant to common everyday items such as coffee, wine, lemon juice, and many other products.
Dekton is highly resistant to scratches, although like natural and engineered stone, it is not recommended to be used as a cutting board.
Dekton also provides very good resistance to high temperatures which could normally damage natural or engineered stone. The 10-year warranty on Dekton countertops is another advantage with this product.
As the Porcelain product category continues to evolve, Solid Surfaces NY will continue to be at the forefront of its development.
